Seed Excellence is an independent Australian privately-owned plant breeding company. We focus on the development of bread wheat varieties for the northern and western regions, with a secondary focus on broadly adapted barley varieties, and durum varieties for the northern region.
Our Products
We have 15 seed affiliates located throughout broadacre cropping regions of Australia, that will allow Australian growers easy access to our new varieties of Bread and Hay Wheats, Durums and Barleys.

Seed Excellence was born out of breeding and research activities led by Dr Mark Dieters at the University of Queensland over the last 20 years. Seed Excellence has been conducting multilocation breeding trials in Australia for over 5 years, with our first bread wheat variety (SEA CONDAMINE) released in 2018.
We have links to other Australian universities and offshore breeding programs with licenses to bring their genetics into Australia for evaluation and commercialisation.
Our Team
Mark Dieters
is an honorary professor in research activities, leveraging his PhD in quantitative genetics and has led the University of Queensland’s cereal breeding team for 20+ years
John Shepherd
has been in the seed industry since the year 2000, working in the areas of early generation bulk ups, seed production and commercialisation.
Todd Jorgensen
has been in the seed industry since 1992. Todd’s focus has been on seed production and commercialisation.
